Summer Olympics Stitch-A-Long Results

I made good progress during the Summer Olympics Stitch-A-Long!  I have 3 finishes to report.

For my Team Spirit and Mini-Marathon gold medals : I finished my Eagle Ornament - 3-1/4" x 3-1/4"on 28 ct linen (adapted from "United We Stand" pattern found at: http://www.123stitch.com/free-cross-stitch.html).  I removed the medallion and replaced it with USA, and I added glass beads to the olive branch and wheat stalks.

I plan to finish this into an ornament, as I have so few Patriotic themed items to display during the Summer holidays.

For a gold medal crossing the Finish Line: I finished Mr. Whiskers into an ornament by adding a felt backing, a hanging ribbon and white wire whiskers.

Mr. Whiskers can be found in the Just CrossStitch 2012 Halloween Issue (page 14).

Rotation Relay:  While I did work on my 3 rotation projects, I did not finish any of them... so I will post those photos in a later update.

For a gold medal in the Sprint:  I managed to finish Nighttime Moon.  This was a project I received as a gift.  I finished most of the needlepoint in 2006 - so it was just a matter of doing the outlining and adding all of the stars to the piece.

This brings my finishes for 2012 up to 13!

Eighth Full Moon of the WIPocalypse

It has only been 2 weeks since I made my last WIPocalypse post ... so no new finishes, but I made some good progress!

The Maritime:  This is a new kit that I added in July.  I am stitching this as a gift for someone special.  I have included this in my Olympics Stitch-a-long "Rotation Relay".

Carousel Zebra:  This one has been on my WIP list for too long.  I have also included this in my Olympics Stitch-a-long "Rotation Relay" to get it moving along.

United We Stand (pattern found at: http://www.123stitch.com/free-cross-stitch.html): This is a new project that I started to stitch during the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics.

I am adapting the pattern into an ornament using just the center image. I am stitching on 28ct linen.  I don't have any patriotic stitcheries - so I thought this would be a nice small project for me to stitch during the Olympics.
I couldn't resist grabbing the Just Cross Stitch Halloween Issue. I want to stitch everything in it. So of course, I had to jump right in!
I started with "Mr. Whiskers" (page 14), mainly because I had never stitched on plastic canvas and wanted to give it a try.  Stitching on plastic canvas is a bit harder on my hands, but it works well for ornaments & it is nice not to use a hoop or frame while stitching. I completed all of the cross stitching and I only need to add the whiskers and finish into an ornament.

Finally, I had to start stitching "Halloween Pumpkin" (page 43).  It is such a wonderful piece.  I love the bat border around the black cat and Jack O'lantern!

I actually purchased the 28ct Cashel linen that the pattern called for.  It looks quite a bit lighter in person than the photo - but we'll see how it goes.

To sum up my WIPocalypse month ...
I started 4 NEW projects (shame on me), and I had ZERO finishes.

the Summer Olympics Stitch-A-Long

In order to step up the pace of my stitching, I have decided to join in the "SOSAL" (Summer Olympics Stitch-A-Long).

<--Feel free to use this graphic if you want.

Here is a list of events: ( I grabbed this list from Measi & added the last two events)
  • Sprint : Push yourself to complete your nearly finished or small projects.
  • Rotation Relay : Work on your WIPs in a steady rotation.
  • Long Jump : Make progress on a giant project.
  • Finish Line : Frame or Finish your already stitched projects into ornaments, bookmarks, etc...
  • Rings United : Stitch only in colors of the Olympic Rings (blue, yellow, black, green and red).
  • Marathon :  Start a new project during the opening ceremonies and Finish it during the closing ceremonies.
  • Team Spirit : Work on a project related to your country.
I plan to enter the following events:
  • Sprint : Nighttime Moon (needs outlining only)
  • Rotation Relay : The Maritime, Hang in There, Carousel Zebra (will try to take these to the "finish line" and will add in other WIPs as I complete each one.)
  • Finish Line : Halloween Cat Ornament (needs whiskers, backing and hanger)
  • Team Spirit and Mini-Marathon : United We Stand - (pattern found at: http://www.123stitch.com/free-cross-stitch.html).  I plan to adapt this pattern into an ornament using just the center image.
I have tried to keep my goals realistic and hope to have the 6 listed projects finished at the close of the stitch-a-long.  I will post photos as I progress through the challenge.

Happy Stitching!
