June WIPocalypse Update

It's hard to believe that we are half-way through the year!  I am making progress towards my stitching goals ... but not as much as I would like.

This month I had 2 finishes!  I finished stitching the Quaker Sampler that I started stitching last April (see my previous post), and I also stitched a little Model T ornament for my dad.

I started 1 new project: "Napping Kitten", which is a Dimensions Gold Petite Kit, 5" x 7" on 18 ct. aida.

I feel that I have made a good start on it this month!  You can see a photo of what it will look like on my WIPocalype update page (along with all of my other projects).

The designer for this month was Teresa Wentzler, so I worked on both of my Teresa Wentzler projects.  I am making slow progress on these.

I am fine with the color blending, I am even OK with all of the quarter and half stitches... but is it just me, or do any of you have trouble with Teresa Wentzler's charts?  I have a hard time making out the handwritten symbols - I am using glasses and a hand held magnifier just to distinguish the symbols.  Uugh!  And some of them are so similar to each other - it just drives me insane!  Any frogging I have done on these is not do to mis-counting, but rather mis-reading symbols.  Anyhow, here are my progress photos:

Below is my Castle Sampler - 15.5"x 14.125" on 27ct. evenweave:

And here is my Summer Carousel Horse 14-3/4"x 18" on 27ct. evenweave:

And last, but not least, I made some pretty good progress on my "Butterfly Forest"

That's all for this update.
Happy Stitching!

  3. I've only done one TW design, one of her freebies. I don't think I'll ever try a big design! Your Butterfly Forest looks gorgeous! I love looking at your WIPocalypse page. It is so nice and organized!

  4. Looks like you made some good progress. I stitched TW's The Castle back in the late 80's (I think) but that's it. It was a difficult stitch on aida. If I were to try another of her patterns I would definitely do it on an evenweave instead. I don't remember the handwritten symbols but I fear my older eyes would have problems with the also. Good luck!

  5. I love your Teresa pieces. Like Marcy I stitched The Castle on the aida that came in the kit. Insanity!!

  6. Here's my hint for the handwritten symbols, photocopy the chart and colour in each symbol as you go before you stitch them. For example, colour all the triangles then stitch them all. Then colour all the * and stitch them. I use a different coloured pen for each symbol but some people use a yellow before they stitch then after they've stitched that symbol they recolour with a darker pen and use yellow again for the next symbol.
Hope this makes sense in words!

    1. Thanks so much! That makes perfect sense. I will give it a try - I think it will be a big help.
